Our Story
Sunny Side Physio is a newly established physiotherapy practice in the heart of Somerton Park. We operate out of the lovely cafe called Summertown Studio. Whilst this is not the norm for physio, we thought why not? Our location boasts delicious coffee, a food truck out the front, The Loft Collaborative upstairs running pilates and yoga classes, a flower shop, monthly markets and wine nights. It’s a hive of activity and we are so excited to join the crew!
How does Physiotherapy work in a cafe?
It’s fairly simple and non-clinical! We rent a cosy little room down the back at Summertown Studio, right near the co-working space. We have everything we need in the room, so you’ll spend your whole consult there. We do your payment at the end with our on-site HICAPs machine (meaning you only pay the gap if you have extras – yay!) and you can rebook future appointments with the physio if you need.
What kind of services do you offer?
We treat all types of aches and pains, including neck pain, shoulder pain, headaches, low back pain, tennis elbow, hip bursitis, knee and ankles injuries (the list goes on!). There’s nothing we don’t treat!
We use a combination of hands-on treatment with dry needling, cupping and therapeutic ultrasound to achieve quicker results and get you moving again.
Do you have any special areas of interest?
We’re so glad you asked! Yes we do. We have a passion for both maternal health (think pre and post-natal aches and pains) as well as running injuries.
Pregnancy Physio
Some common prenatal conditions we treat:
Pregnancy related low back pain
Lateral hip pain
Pelvic girdle pain (SIJ, pubic symphysis)
Upper back pain
Neck pain and headaches
Rib stiffness
Post-natal Physio
Some common postnatal conditions we treat:
Mastitis
Mum’s thumb
Neck and shoulder pain from feeding
Low back pain
Pelvic and coccyx pain from birth
We also do post-natal assessments, where you can get your abdominal separation measured, pelvic floor checked (externally) and be given some simple home pilates exercises. Click here to book an Initial appointment online, and add a note that you would like a post-natal assessment.
Running Physio
We love running! Whether you are wanting to start out or you’re an experienced runner, we have a passion for reducing those niggles and keeping you out on the pavement. We can also provide education around gradual loading to safely ease you back into running without your pain coming back!
Some common running injuries we treat:
Runner’s knee
Shin splints
Tendinopathies (achilles, tibialis posterior)
Plantar fasciitis
Ankle sprains
We also head out to Brighton Run Club each Monday morning at 6.30am, so if you want to come along feel free to check them out on instagram!
1:1 Reformer Pilates
We offer 1:1 Reformer Pilates sessions to help you along your rehabilitation journey. We do this in the beautiful space upstairs known as The Loft Collaborative.
Pilates is an excellent tool to rehab absolutely anything and everything! It’s specifically useful to get those deep stabilising muscles switching on and working how they’re meant to!
You will be given an entirely individualised program that is suited to your needs and goals. If this is something you would like to start, please don’t hesitate to get in touch!
